DESCRIPTION OF THE RELIGIOUS SITE

DESCRIPTION
It is thought that the Tibeti Church located in Cevizli Village of Şavşat District of Artvin, about 14 km away from the district center, was built during the period of Aşut Koukhi from Bagratlı Prince, who ruled between 899-914 according to written sources. There is no book of the church that can be accessed daily. The monastery, located in the village of Cevizli, was reached with a daily church and chapel. The chapel has a rectangular plan in the east-west direction to the north of the northern cross. The northern façade has been moved by arkads with round arches. The north and west walls of the church are completely destroyed. It is similar to the Church in terms of structure, material and technique, which does not reach any daytime ornament.
HISTORICAL RELEVANCE
After XI y.y, there are ram sculptures on every surface of the roof consisting of four surface made of stone, which is considered among the important religious centers of the area. The interior has Apostolic figures. The structure is attracted by herbal plastic ornaments and smooth stone workmanship. XII. and XV. centuries it was used as a mosque after Islam was accepted in the church area which was repaired . In 1885, it was abandoned due to the lightning strike.
INTER-RELIGIOUS RELEVANCE
Tibeti Church is both used as church and mosque like many other religious structures due to the movement of populations in history. most of these ancient structures are disused and abandoned. But still the ruins of these ancient beatuies give us inspiration and the courage to find and understand our roots and human reality.
RELIGIOUS INFLUENCE
Tibeti Church has an influance during the Bagradi Kingdom period of old Armenians in 10th century. People living in those ages could get together and in these structures.
HOW TO USE WITH THE STUDENTS
Only the ruins of the structure is left today. the church is in a natural low population area, also near to a natural park Karagöl. The city Artvin in a north east city of Turkey which is very far from the big cities of Turkey. Also tranportal devices are not enough to reach to these natural area. For school visits this structure may be a part of a natural life trip.
