DESCRIPTION OF THE RELIGIOUS SITE

DESCRIPTION
Inter-faith Centre for Peace, is an association of cultural and social promotion with exclusive purposes of social solidarity, human, civil, cultural and ethical research.
HISTORICAL RELEVANCE
It was founded in Rome in 1982 to promote the collaboration of religious and secular forces for the construction of peace, justice and the protection of creation. Independently of religious and political hierarchies, Cipax' s associates promote meetings and publications for the dissemination of the culture of peace, organize projects on disarmament, non-violence education, dialogue between and within religions, economics of justice, environmental protection, solidarity with Latin America.
INTER-RELIGIOUS RELEVANCE
Since its inception, Cipax has been involved in the so-called "Conciliar Process on Justice, Peace and Safeguarding Creation" promoted by the World Council of Churches (CEC) in 1983, which saw thousands of people gathered in the European ecumenical assemblies of Basel (1989 ), Graz (1997), Sibiu (2007) and the first Seoul World Convocation (1990). Cipax participated both with the physical presence of its members and with the translation and dissemination of documents. In 2009 the CEC launched a new appointment: the "International ecumenical summit on peace" to mark the end of the "Decade to overcome violence - the Churches in search of reconciliation and peace". In the summer of 2009, Cipax translated and published the "Preparatory Document for a Declaration on Just Peace" which has been studied in many groups and communities. In October 2010 it translated a new document of the CEC entitled "Telling the truth about the world and about ourselves - Manual of study designed to help people and churches to develop their reflection, and their common action". On June 2, 2010, a crowded conference on this theme was held in Milan with speeches by Letizia Tomassone, Paolo Ricca, Giovanni Giudici, Serena Noceti, Giuseppe Di Gennaro and Brunetto Salvarani and others. Their speeches were the preparatory texts of the Kingston assembly. A lot of information on ecumenism and peace can be found at www.chiese-e-pace.it and can be freely downloaded.
RELIGIOUS INFLUENCE
The center through its initiatives, its national and international conferences, promotes an inter-faith reflection on the themes of peace, justice and the environment, in an ecumenical dimension.
