Fraternity of Ostuni, in the countryside near Ostuni (Brindisi, Apulia) is one of the seats of the Ecumenical Community of Bose near Biella, which is inserted in the tradition of Eastern and Western Christians aiming to live today the project of monasticism, under the guidance of a rule and a spiritual father, called prior, who has the task of constantly referring to the light of the gospel of Jesus Christ. Since autumn 1998 the Bose brothers in Ostuni welcome guests and pilgrims who are looking for a place of solitude and silence, a place for prayer, for listening to the Word of God and for living in fraternal spirit.

Since the first centuries of Christianity there have been men and women who early on came to be called monastics, and who gave up everything in an attempt to live in radical obedience to the Gospel, in celibacy and in community. Bose lies within this tradition, which belongs to the Christian East and West alike. The community seeks to live monastic life in our own time under the guidance of a rule and a spiritual father, the prior, whose duty it is to point the community towards the Gospel of Jesus Christ. "Bose" is a monastic community of men and women belonging to different Christian churches. It is a monastic community seeking God in prayer, poverty, celibacy, and obedience to the Gospel.

In the course of its thirty-five year history, the community of Bose has been enriched by the arrival of new brothers and sisters from numerous regions of Italy and from abroad. The community now has about eighty members from seven countries. Virtually all of the members of Bose are lay people, in keeping with the early monastic tradition and as an expression of the simplicity and lack of visibility that Bose would like to maintain in its relationship with the church.

The community wants to serve within the church in the poverty and simplicity that belong to every Christian who, in baptism, commits him- or herself to serve the Gospel, and nothing else. The two Catholic priests and the Protestant minister present at Bose offer the services of their ministry to the community and its guests.

Starting from the example of the ecumenical dialogue that is at the foundation of the Bose community, the students will be able to work on the common points of Christian rites and religions, following the history of schisms, and the aspects that bind and separate Christianity.
