DESCRIPTION OF THE RELIGIOUS SITE

DESCRIPTION
The Sisters of Bose share the ecumenical Christian tradition in the Monastery of Santa Scolastica in Civitella San Paolo, near Rome, next to the Benedictine Sisters. The two communities of sisters are the result of a long history of friendship and collaboration. They share the fundamental moments of the day (liturgy of hours, meals and work), but preserve the autonomy of communities of ecumenical inspiration, without fearing the challenges of cohabitation and of the daily dialogue on which it is based. Quam bonum white wine and Santa Scolastica and Moraiolo extra virgin olive oils are the result of the work in the vineyard and in the olive grove of the monastery.
HISTORICAL RELEVANCE
Since the first centuries of Christianity there have been men and women who early on came to be called monastics, and who gave up everything in an attempt to live in radical obedience to the Gospel, in celibacy and in community. Bose lies within this tradition, which belongs to the Christian East and West alike. The community seeks to live monastic life in our own time under the guidance of a rule and a spiritual father, the prior, whose duty it is to point the community towards the Gospel of Jesus Christ. "Bose" is a monastic community of men and women belonging to different Christian churches. It is a monastic community seeking God in prayer, poverty, celibacy, and obedience to the Gospel.
INTER-RELIGIOUS RELEVANCE
In the course of its thirty-five year history, the community of Bose has been enriched by the arrival of new brothers and sisters from numerous regions of Italy and from abroad. The community now has about eighty members from seven countries. Virtually all of the members of Bose are lay people, in keeping with the early monastic tradition and as an expression of the simplicity and lack of visibility that Bose would like to maintain in its relationship with the church.
RELIGIOUS INFLUENCE
The community wants to serve within the church in the poverty and simplicity that belong to every Christian who, in baptism, commits him- or herself to serve the Gospel, and nothing else. The two Catholic priests and the Protestant minister present at Bose offer the services of their ministry to the community and its guests.
