DESCRIPTION OF THE RELIGIOUS SITE
DESCRIPTION Interconfessional Chapel inside the Sicily main airport, in Palermo.
A small, modern chapel dedicated to all traverlers, similar to the space at Gatwick Airport in London and other European Airports.
HISTORICAL RELEVANCE The Chapel was named after "Santa Maria Odigidria", literally, "She who points the way", just to remember that the airport is the place and crossroads of many who come and depart from the port of call in the City of Cinisi. The icon of the ancient Byzantine tradition is on the internal front of the portal of the Cathedral of Monreale.
On the walls some paintings reproduce the mosaics of the Cathedral of Monreale, in particular the evangelical episode of the disciples of Emmaus, with the Christ who becomes a pilgrim and traveling companion, but also a pause that refreshes to resume the journey. At the back of the chapel was also an ancient painting by Santa Fara, Patron of Cinisi.
INTER-RELIGIOUS RELEVANCE The aim is to offer a place of prayers for travellers,
the first airport where tourists and employees of various institutions, can enjoy a cult where all the pastors are put on equal terms in the profession of various religions
RELIGIOUS INFLUENCE The priests who will alternate in the arias functions: the parish priest of Carini delegate for the Catholic cult, the delegate for the Anglican cult and one more for the Waldensian and Methodist cult and other auxiliaries. t
