HISTORICAL RELEVANCE
Stoyna Dimitrova, known later as Reverend Stoyna, was born on September 9, 1883 in the village of Hasnar, then in the Ottoman Empire, today in Greece. At the age of seven, she suffered from smallpox and lost her eyesight. It is considered that then she discovered her clairvoyant and healing abilities. After she performed miraculous feats, people in the area began to seek her help and healing. They started calling her “Reverend” because of her austere lifestyle. After the Second Balkan War, the family of Stoyna moved to Bulgaria, as Haznarar remained in Greece. On the way to Petrich, passing through the village of Dolna Sushitsa, Zlatovist, Reverend Stoyna decided to stay in the chapel dedicated to St. George in the village. There she spent the rest of her life in fasting and prayer. Many people came to her for help, advice, consolation, and confession. Reverend Stoyna died of pneumonia on December 22, 1933, refusing medical treatment. She is buried in the courtyard of St. George's Church in the village of Zlatolist. A small memorial is marks her grave. While many have venerated Reverend Stoyna as a saint for almost one hundred years, she is not recognized by the Bulgarian Orthodox church.
INTER-RELIGIOUS RELEVANCE
The number of pilgrims to the tomb of Reverend Stoyna is ever growing. The fame of the miraculous power of the place have spread beyond the borders of Bulgaria. Many seek healing from deceases and infertility. Every weekend dozens of visitors come from all over Bulgaria, as well as many pilgrims from Russia and Kazakhstan. The largest crowd gathers on the eve of the temple celebration - May. Many folk healers are gathering here, as they believe there is a strong energy field around the temple, and anyone who comes with prayer will receive support for their deeds.
RELIGIOUS INFLUENCE
Near the church there is a 1300-year-old plane tree. There is a belief that the pains of anyone standing close to it disappear miraculously. A swing is tied to the branches of the centuries-old tree. It is believed that rocking on it brings good health and fortune.
