DESCRIPTION OF THE RELIGIOUS SITE

DESCRIPTION
The 5th arrondissement of Paris is often nicknamed the Latin Quarter, the 5th arrondissement includes the University of Paris-Sorbonne and cafés appreciated by students. It is also famous for its bookstores, including the famous Shakespeare and Company. This neighbourhood has several family-friendly sites, including the jardin des Plantes and the National Museum of Natural History. In the imposing Pantheon lie celebrities such as Voltaire and Marie Curie.
HISTORICAL RELEVANCE
The 5th arrondissement of Paris is the oldest district of the city: it covers most of the Latin district, built by the Romans in antiquity. It is located on the left bank, on the banks of the Seine.

Today, the 5th arrondissement is above all a university and intellectual district (many publishers and bookshops), but it is also a very touristic district (very important concentration of restaurants between the Seine, boulevard Saint-Germain, boulevard Saint-Michel, and rue Saint-Jacques). It is also a lively district in the evening (many pubs on rue Mouffetard and rue Descartes).
INTER-RELIGIOUS RELEVANCE
As the oldest quarter of Paris, its origins are connected with the Roman Empire, therefore the first religious institution that this place saw growing was the Catholic Roman Church.
Today, with society's changes, immigration, demography, there is an increase of the different confessions.

In the same quarter you can find "The Great Mosque of Paris" (2bis Place du Puits de l'Ermite, 75005 Paris), for the people converted to Islam; a couple of miles next to the Mosque you can find "Saint Patrick's Chapel" (Collège des Irlandais, 5 Rue des Irlandais, 75005 Paris) for those who chose Christianity, and the "Synagogue of the Latin Quarter" (9 rue Vauquelin, 75005 Paris).
RELIGIOUS INFLUENCE
3 major religions, the 3 religions that are the most different can coexister in the same quarter, it influences the demography of the site. For instance new stores were opened specialized in the different rules of food that each confession has, with for instance Halal food.
