Via Taddeide, Riano , Italy

RELIGIONS Catholic

DESCRIPTION OF THE RELIGIOUS SITE

DESCRIPTION
The Convent of the Capuchin Friars Minor of Riano was built in the second half of the 16th century when the Cesi family bought the castle with all the surrounding land and decided to create a convent for the Capuchin monks, probably on the ruins of an ancient structure. Tradition recounts that St. Francis spent his last stop here on the way to Rome from Assisi, an event that the Capuchin brothers wanted to commemorate. Today, that area on the hill is occupied by the Cittadella Ecumenica Taddeide, an oasis of peace and a place of prayer. The building is composed of two parts: one reserved for the use of the religious community, the other is a welcoming ecumenical Spirituality Centre, used for conventions, seminars and encounters. It is also used for pilgrims visiting Rome.
HISTORICAL RELEVANCE
The Founder was Mons. Penitenti, who was born on 10.1.1912 in Sermide (Mantua), on 25.10.1924 he entered the Seminary. On 6-6-1936 he was ordained a priest. In the years 1942-1943 he was Military chaplain in Russia and in other European countries. On 4-6-1944, in Rome, the MICHAEL Association began, which was then called UNITAS with the magazine of the same name; in 1945 he left this initiative in the hands of an expert theologian to found, always in Rome, in Via Matteo Boiardo, between difficulties and trials of all kinds, a religious community called "CASA DEI PICCOLI OPERAI" to collect souls "daring" and ardent "who consecrated themselves to the ecumenical apostolate. On 17-8-1946 he was named, for his outstanding merits, Canonico del Pantheon. In 1947 he had to transfer the seat of his small nascent community to Pian Paradiso (Viterbo), and in 1951 finally to Riano (Rome), where he was welcomed by the late Cardinal Eugenio Tisserant, then bishop of the place. On December 13 of the same year, he raised it to the Pious Priestly Priestly Society. The Community consists of Priests, Sisters and Laity; the first two commonly called Ecumenical Missionaries and Missionaries and the Lay Michaelites. Its specific purpose is to pray and work for the unity of Christians. The Mother House - the Ecumenical Citadel TADDEIDE, Riano (Rome) - is the driving force of its ecumenical apostolate, which is spreading to many parts of the world.
INTER-RELIGIOUS RELEVANCE
Our Ecumenical Charismatic Family is composed of these branches: Ecumenical Missionaries (religious-priests) Oblates of the Church, Ecumenical (religious) Missionaries Michaleites (consecrated laymen) Michaeliti (families) The CITTADELLA is composed of Priests, Religious and Laity, commonly called Missionaries / and Ecumenicals / and Michaelites. The Ecumenical Family was founded in Rome in 1944 by the late and beloved Mgr. Giulio M. Penitenti, commonly called by us, his spiritual Sons, "the Father". He gave life to a community of young people, as eager as he was to consecrate his whole life to the service of the ecumenical cause.
RELIGIOUS INFLUENCE
After various wanderings, the Father Founder definitively fixed his nascent community in a small and ancient convent of the Capuchin Fathers, located in the Municipality of Riano (Rome), Diocese of Porto-Santa Rufina, whose Ordinary, at that time, was the Card. Eugenio Tisserant. After a few years of prayer, work and sacrifice, that little convent was transformed into an imposing Ecumenical Citadel which, in honor of St. Jude Thaddeus, was called TADDEIDE, the cradle of the family and the driving force of all ecumenical activities.
