1.1 Introduction
The course presents a comparative review of the liturgical celebrations, ceremonies and dietary rules existing in the different religions, with a particular focus on the monotheistic ones. The diffusion of a culture and a multi-ethnic society have made such comparison not only necessary, but stimulating in terms of knowledge and educational implementation in the school environment, even inspiring the consequent educational knowledge and methodologies.

In this regard, it may be useful to start from the measurement of time which has been used in the various religious confessions, comparing the main historical information and differences in the calendars.

Different religions count the years differently. For example, the Jews number them from the date of the supposed creation of the world (the year 2001 would be 5761), the Muslims number them from the date of Hegira (2001 would be 1379).

The dating commonly used in international affairs is the Christian one, which starts from the year in which Jesus Christ is presumed to be born: in the Christian world we would say that we live in the year 2001 after Christ (AD), or of the vulgar era (VE). In the Jewish world it is called CE (Common Era).
